Summer Is Almost Here! Is Your House Ready?

Published On: June 1, 2026By

Ahh, summer. Graduation parties. Family cookouts. Friends coming over to swim. You spend more time outside and do a lot more entertaining.

If you already have storage, it’s time to retrieve all your summer furniture, bikes and other equipment. If you don’t have a storage unit, here’s a reminder that all of the items that come with these seasonal transitions don’t have to be overwhelming.

Winter items are bulky. If you could move those winter coats out of the closet, the sled and skates out of the garage, that clothes bin out of your gameroom and those blankets out of your closet, you might be able to actually park a car in your garage or keep some new sporting equipment in your closet.

No one seems to have much extra space these days. Our bedrooms have been transformed into offices, maybe a home gym, even a playroom. And you can’t put a bunch of extra items into those rooms. Clutter is the worst.

A 5×5 or 5×10 storage unit might seem small, but you’d be surprised at what you can get out of your house and into that space to give your home a little summer refresh.

If guests are coming in from out of town, you are going to need that spare bedroom. If kids are coming home from college, they are going to want their space back.

Take inventory of everything you won’t use or need for the next few months and start determining what size unit might be able to accommodate.

Think about winter and transitional furniture; holiday decorations; winter-only gear and clothing; collectibles; and antiques, as a start.

Honestly, for any item you don’t see yourself needing this summer, why let it take up space in your home? You don’t need to get rid of it, but why not have a dedicated space for it?

Once you secure a storage unit, you can use it for every season. When summer is over, the patio furniture now has a clean, dedicated space and the bikes are no longer sitting on top of holiday decor in the shed.

If you’re storing patio furniture, a climate-controlled unit is worth considering to protect cushions, wood finishes and metal frames from moisture and temperature swings.

Guardian Storage has convenient locations across Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Colorado, with a range of unit sizes and climate-controlled options to fit whatever your summer (or winter) setup requires. Our teams are happy to help you figure out exactly what you need. Reserve your unit today at guardianstorage.com.
