Guardian Storage Featured in Mini-Storage Messenger Magazine

Published On: February 2, 2022By

We’re excited to announce that we were highlighted by Mini-Storage Messenger for our 35 years of giving back to our communities. With over three decades in the self storage business, we are excited to start off 2022 with 31 locations in the greater Pittsburgh and Denver areas with more on the way!

35 Years of Giving

At Guardian Storage, our core values are caring, excellence, commitment, innovation, and teamwork. Caring comes first in our values because we believe that being a good neighbor and community member is one of the most important functions of our business. Our giving falls under three main pillars: educating our youth, neighbors in need, and building green communities. Throughout our 35 years in business, we have centered around these three areas and supported them through a variety of events and donations.

Educating Our Youth

“When you educate youth, you give them an advantage that can’t be taken away” – Steven Cohen, President and Founder of Guardian Storage

To support the education of our local youth, we provide annual support to both the Kids in Need Foundation and The Education Partnership. These organizations help connect us with local schools in need and give us the opportunity to donate our time and money to provide teachers and students with the supplies they need to succeed. Through The Education Partnership, we adopt two local schools in Pittsburgh and provide them with supplies and homework power tool kits. In Colorado, we adopt and donate to three local schools through the Kids in Need Foundation. All monetary and school supply donations we receive through our Shred-It events are also donated to these two organizations, to help them reach even more schools and students.

Aside from these organizations, we also support local school sports teams and other organizations to stay connected to the success of students in our areas.

Neighbors in Need

Our second pillar, neighbors in need stretches to anyone in our communities who need a helping hand. Most recently, we put together weekly donation drop-offs to organizations helping to support those who were affected by the Marshall Fire in Colorado.

Most notable of our events is our annual Coat & Sock Drive, supported by One Warm Coat and Knock Knock Give a Sock. Each winter, we collect gently-used and new coats and socks at all locations. Our employees then donate their time to sort the items based on the needs of the local organizations we partner with. Our team then delivers the donations to each local charity to help provide some extra warmth to our neighbors in need before the winter weather hits. In 2021, we collected around 1,500 coats and socks, which were donated to nine local organizations.

In addition, we hold food and item drives for organizations like St. James Ministries, Chartier Center, and the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank. To fight food insecurity further, we passed out carton gardens at the Wilkinsburg Backyard Gardening Festival. We also support various other nonprofits and organizations at each of our locations and are always ready to lend a helping hand when our community members are in need.

Building Green Communities

Supporting green initiatives is important to us at Guardian Storage. All of our Pittsburgh locations serve as electronic waste drop-off points for anyone in our communities. This service is 100% free and does not require you to be a Guardian Storage customer to participate. In addition to our electronic recycling, we also hold free Shred-It events twice a year that allow anyone to come and shred their documents for free. Shred-It then takes the paper from our events and recycles it to be made into new products.

We are also proud to sponsor multiple community gardens around Pittsburgh in partnership with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. These gardens provide green space around the city and support biodiversity.

We look forward to many more years of supporting our communities, and are so excited to be celebrating this milestone of 35 years in business!
