Guardian Storage Bridgeville Holds Food Drive for Chartiers Center

Published On: September 27, 2021By

Guardian Storage Bridgeville is hosting a food drive throughout the month of October to benefit Chartiers Center's food pantry.

October Food Drive to Support Community Members in Need

At any given time, nearly 1 in 7 of our neighbors in Allegheny County are facing food insecurity. Guardian Storage Bridgeville is hosting a food drive throughout the month of October to benefit Chartiers Center’s food pantry.

We are accepting unexpired goods and non-perishable items to donate to Mary’s Market at Chartiers Center. Mary’s Market is a food pantry that provides emergency access to food to meet the short-term needs of Chartiers Center’s homeless consumers and those receiving outpatient services. Examples of items needed are:

  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned soup
  • Cereals
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Jams
  • Peanut butter
  • Personal care items

Please drop off donations in the office at our Bridgeville location, located at 1599 Washington Pike.
Our office hours are Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Who Does the Food Drive Support?

Chartiers Center is a local non-profit located in Bridgeville that is committed to providing compassionate support to those in need who face behavioral health, co-occurring disorders, or IDD challenges as they transform their lives. Those who are dealing with issues related to behavioral health, substance abuse, or homelessness are particularly at risk for food insecurity. To help address these concerns, Chartiers Center created a food pantry they call Mary’s Market.

The market serves consumers primarily from the South Hills as well as any consumer living in Allegheny County. Bags of food are distributed by case managers and therapists out of their Bridgeville and McKees Rocks offices. They also distribute food through their mobile teams who bring bags in their cars for when they meet with those who are homeless or in need. On average, they serve around 250 individuals and families.

Mary’s Market does not replace traditional food banks. Instead, it provides Chartiers Center’s consumers with a simple bag of goods to sustain them until other resources become available. This helps the center meet the temporary hunger needs of their consumers while providing guidance for them to create reliable methods of procuring healthy food through other resources like Food Banks, SNAP benefits, etc.

Help Us Support Mary’s Market!

We are kindly asking our tenants and community members to help us support Mary’s Market so that these 250 individuals and families do not have to worry about where their next meal will come from.
